Dotting the i's, Crossing the t's, Packing for Nine Weeks....

Well, here it is smack dab in the middle of our anniversary season, and we're getting ready to fly over to Sicily next week for the start of a nine week Sicilian, Sardinian, and Italian winter vacation.  The newspaper is stopped, the mail is forwarded, and we've packed enough underwear.  We fly from Buffalo to JFK, then to Milan, Italy (in first class, yea!), and finally to Catania, Sicily where we'll pick up a rental car and drive to The Lemon Tree near Taormina, a place that is near and dear to our hearts.  We'll be at The Lemon Tree for a little over three weeks, after which we'll be staying a few days in Cefalu', Palermo, Naro (near Agrigento), and Marsala.

From the Trapani airport near Marsala we fly to Sardinia, a first time visit to that Mediterranean island.  We'll be exploring the less-traveled west coast of Sardinia, staying at bed-and-breakfasts and farms along the way.  From Trapani we fly into Cagliari, Sardinia, the largest city on the island, where we'll stay for three nights.  Then we drive up the west coast for three nights each in Oristano, Bosa, and Alghero.  The only decent non-stop flight we could find from Sardinia to Rome two days before Easter was from Cagliari, so that last morning we'll get up early and drive the three hours from Alghero back to the Cagliari airport.

From Rome Fiumicino airport we will taxi to the S-Suites in central Rome.  We'll try to make our way to St. Peter's on Easter Sunday.  Two days after Easter, Mike and Lori, and Gary and Jill will meet us at the Rome airport, where we'll have a van waiting for the six of us.  Our itinerary includes three nights in the Umbrian hill town of Orvieto, four nights in Monticchiello, a medieval walled village in Tuscany, and a final two nights in Rome.

We're looking forward to seeing old friends in Sicily and Italy, and making new ones along the way.  These extended winter trips to Italy and beyond have enriched us and broadened our view of the world.

Below are maps of Sicily, Sardinia, and the area of Italy, showing our itinerary.

Let the 2018 Adventures begin !!!

   Ciao.....
